Clifton Hill Is Loud, Bright and Aimed at Your Wallet. Here Is What Is Actually Worth Doing.

The strip of arcades and attractions above the falls is pure tourist theatre. A few things on the hill are genuinely good. Most are skippable. We sorted them out.

The bright lights and attractions of Clifton Hill

Clifton Hill is the steep street of arcades, wax museums, mini golf and fudge that runs up from the river. Locals roll their eyes at it. Kids love it. The honest truth is that it is somewhere in between, and a fun-pass mentality will empty your wallet fast.

Worth it

  • The Niagara SkyWheel, a 53 metre Ferris wheel with enclosed, climate controlled cabins and a clear view down to the falls. It runs after dark, when the illumination is on.
  • Dinosaur Adventure Golf, a genuinely well built mini golf course, more fun than it has any right to be.
  • A walk up the hill itself, after dark, just to see it lit up. That part is free.

Skippable

The haunted houses and most of the museums are short, pricey and forgettable. If you are buying anything, the combination passes only pay off if you will use three or more attractions in a day. For most families, two is plenty.

The move

Do the hill in the evening as a wind down after the falls, not as the main event. Eat before you go up, since the food on the strip is expensive and average, and the good restaurants are a short walk away at the parkway.
