Privacy Policy

Last updated June 2026

The Niagara Current ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit niagaracurrent.ca, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

Information you give us. If you contact us or send a tip, we keep your name, email address and message so we can reply and follow up. If you subscribe to a newsletter, we store the email address you provide so we can send it.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting and analytics tools may record standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device, referring page and the pages you view. This helps us understand what is useful and keep the site secure. We do not use this to identify you personally.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We may use privacy-conscious analytics to see which articles are read, and our advertising partners (see below) may set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time without breaking the site, though some features may work less smoothly.

Advertising

Some pages on The Niagara Current carry advertising, including ads served by Google. Sponsored content is always clearly labelled.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
  • For more detail, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

How we use your information

We use the information above to reply to you, send anything you asked for, understand and improve the site, show advertising, and keep the site secure. We do not sell your personal information.

Sharing

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the site (such as our host, email and analytics tools, and advertising partners), and where required by law. These providers handle data under their own privacy policies.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from any newsletter using the link in every email. You can ask us to access or delete the personal information you have sent us by writing to hello@niagaracurrent.ca. Canadian visitors have rights under PIPEDA, and we will respond to reasonable requests.

Data retention

We keep your messages and subscription details only as long as needed for the purpose you gave them, or as the law requires, and then delete them.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The date below shows when it last changed.

Contact

Questions about your privacy can go to hello@niagaracurrent.ca.
