The summer fireworks are back over the falls, launching from the gorge several nights a week through the season and landing right after the nightly illumination. The whole show runs a few minutes, but the setup, the falls lit in colour underneath, is the part people remember.
You will see plenty of restaurants selling fireworks dinner packages. You do not need one. The viewing here is genuinely good for free if you know where to stand.
Where to watch without paying
- Queen Victoria Park, directly across from the falls, is the classic spot. Arrive twenty minutes early on a weekend to claim a stretch of railing.
- Table Rock, at the very brink of Horseshoe Falls, puts you closest to the illumination colours on the water.
- The promenade north toward the Rainbow Bridge is less crowded and gives you the American Falls in the foreground.
A few tips
Parking near the falls is expensive and fills early. Park further out and walk the parkway in, or take the WEGO bus, which loops the tourist district. Bring a layer. The mist coming off the falls makes the riverbank cooler than the forecast suggests, even in July.
Check the official schedule before you go, since show nights vary by month and weather can push a display.
